Company : Allegheny Health Network Job Description : GENERAL OVERVIEW Transcribes dictation by pathologists and histology staff regarding the gross and microscopic descriptions and diagnoses of anatomic pathology specimens. Also functions in a clerical capacity by answering phones, faxing, filing, and other miscellaneous duties. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES Transcribe medical dictation and clinical information. Utilize word processing, dictation and transcription equipment as directed. Utilize the laboratory information system and hospital information system. Utilize Microsoft Office products to complete miscellaneous clerical tasks which include memos, procedures, spreadsheets, etc. Answer and screen phone calls. Prepare packets for slide send outs and documents slide returns. Prepare surgical pathology cases for review by visiting house physicians. Print demographic sheets for billing purposes and send outs. Complete all manual departmental filing, retrieves reports from microfiche and pathology archives. Distribute final anatomic pathology reports by fax, mail or hand delivery to patient charts (floors), doctors, or appropriate location. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Associate’s degree in medical transcription, medical assistant, or medical secretary OR high school diploma with equivalent job-related work experience of 2-3 years in medical transcription (preferably pathology) is required. Prior job-related work experience of 2-3 years in medical transcription (preferably pathology) is required. Ability to type and transcribe 65 wpm with high level of accuracy required. MS Word skills required. Preferred CMT certification preferred, not required.
