About the position

Join Southwest Airlines as a Spring 2025 Intern in the Communications and Public Relations department. This remote internship will last for 12 weeks, from January 28th to April 17th, 2025. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact on your team by working on various projects that align with the company's initiatives. During your internship, you will engage in a variety of tasks that may include drafting blog content, press releases, and media pitches, as well as assisting with daily communications on the corporate social media channels. You will also participate in event planning, speech preparation, and potentially travel to visit our Corporate Campus in Dallas, Texas. This role is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled as full-time students and are eager to learn and grow in the field of communications and public relations. Interns will receive a competitive hourly wage of $23 per hour, along with a one-time stipend of $1,000, paid in two installments. Additionally, you will enjoy free, unlimited travel privileges for yourself, although taxes and fees may apply on international travel. Required equipment, such as a laptop, will be provided to ensure you have the tools necessary to succeed in your role. Responsibilities • Attend cross-functional meetings , • Complete special projects , • Draft blog content, press releases, media pitches, memos, and letters , • Assist with daily communications on the Southwest Airlines corporate social media channels, and coordinate editorial calendar for online content , • Update and edit media lists using tools like Cision and Muck Rack , • Participate in event planning, speech preparation, and escorting news crews , • Assist with strategic communications planning , • Be involved in possible travel opportunities

Requirements • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required , • Must be at least 18 years of age , • Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986 , • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process , • Progress towards degree, major, or minor in Communications, Public Relations OR similar degree , • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred , • Currently enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application and during the internship , • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application , • Excellent oral and written communication skills required , • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required , • Ability to handle multiple projects under tight deadlines and work well under pressure , • Must handle confidential and sensitive information with the utmost professionalism

Nice-to-haves • Understanding of the airline/travel industry preferred , • Possess a strong understanding of how Customers and Employees use communication channels to communicate with the Southwest Brand
