Writer/ Researcher for a true crime YouTube podcast - Contract to Hire
We are looking for a skilled True Crime Researcher and Writer to join our team and help bring chilling stories of mothers who kill to life. Our YouTube channel focuses on in-depth, well-researched, and creatively told stories that engage true crime enthusiasts.
What Youll Do:
Conduct thorough research on true crime cases involving mothers who have committed serious crimes. This can include articles, analyzing police reports, court documents, news archives, interviews, and other credible sources.
Create detailed, engaging, and suspenseful narratives (minimum of 3,000 words per story) that incorporate facts, psychological insights, and dramatic storytelling.
Structure stories with empathy for victims and their families while maintaining an engaging and well-paced narrative.
Use red herrings, cliffhangers, and plot twists to make the content immersive and keep the audience hooked.
Collaborate closely with the host to ensure the narrative matches their tone and vision, adapting based on feedback.
What were looking for:
1. Thorough Research Skills
Attention to Detail: You should be skilled in combing through various sources, including police reports, court documents, news articles, books, and interviews, to gather accurate and comprehensive information about a case.
Cross-Referencing: You must verify details across multiple credible sources to avoid misinformation and create a coherent, factual narrative.
Ability to Dive Deep: Beyond just the surface-level facts, you should be able to uncover lesser-known aspects of a case and contextualize it within broader social, psychological, or cultural themes.
2. Creative Writing Ability
Narrative Flair: You should craft the story in an engaging, suspenseful, and well-paced way, making it feel like a compelling mystery rather than a dry recitation of facts.
Storytelling Expertise: Your writing should evoke emotion, tension, and intrigue. The ability to build suspense and structure the story with cliffhangers or shocking revelations is key.
Tone Adaptability: You should be able to mirror the tone of the host and channel, which may range from empathetic and serious to conversational or even humorous.
3. Psychological Insight
Understanding of Criminal Psychology: A strong understanding of the psychological factors behind criminal behavior (e.g., motives, backgrounds of perpetrators, and victimology) can add depth to your writing.
Compassion for Victims: You should handle sensitive material, especially around victims and their families, with empathy and respect.
4. Organizational Skills
Logical Flow: must structure your content clearly, breaking the case into digestible sections (e.g., the crime, investigation, trial) while maintaining suspense.
Comprehensive Outlines: A well-organized approach helps present the case logically while leaving room for creative storytelling.
5. Knowledge of True Crime
Ability to Engage True Crime Audiences: Preferably know how to appeal to true crime enthusiasts who crave details, analysis, and immersive narratives.
6. Proactive Collaboration
Effective Communication: should be able to work closely with the podcast host, understanding the creators voice and vision, and integrating feedback seamlessly.
Adaptability: The ability to adjust the content based on the hosts feedback or evolving style is essential.
Pay: $100/per story
