Being a part of a dynamic lifesaving team is an experience unlike any other. Of course it is a step in the right direction for other lifesaving jobs like EMT, Nurse, and Doctor; but did you know that when prospective employers see "Lifeguard" on your resume they see you are someone they can count on, someone that takes ownership of their responsibilities, someone that can work and communicate effectively as part of a team, and someone that does not shy away from scary situations. You will work with others like you as a cohesive unit during regular shifts, trainings, and emergencies. There are other tasks that may not be glamorous like helping to clean the facility but you do get to do it with your awesome teammates.

Shifts: • Work hours and schedule will be consistent with job duties and responsibilities, including days, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays. • The Pool Manager, Head Guards, and Supervisor will try to work with your schedule and offer easy ways to trade shifts and prevent conflicts. • All part-time employees are limited to no more than 980 hours per fiscal year. Staff will be assigned to a specific team and schedule although, schedules from week to week may vary. • A minimum of 3 shifts per week is required

Shifts needing coverage are:

Off-Season Schedule: Monday-Thursday 6:15 am-10:45 am or 4:15 pm-7:45 pm. Every other Friday or as assigned for training 3:30 pm-5:30 pm Saturday & Sunday 12 pm-4 pm.

Regular Part-Time Employee: • Regular employees are able to work year-round during aquatics programming needs and can work up to 20 hours per week. • September – May availability must reflect work hours in the above time frame. Either an AM or PM weekday shift(s) or weekend availability. • Employees whose availability changes not to include the above time frame will be separated from employment with the ability to return.

Steps to become a Lifeguard for San Marcos Aquatics:

1. Complete and submit your application. 2. Successfully complete an in-person interview and In-Water Skills Assessment. 3. Obtain required certifications if needed. (Aquatics Staff will provide additional information and details upon completion of #2) 3. Successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and physical. (Human Resources will contact you to schedule) 5. Attend New Employee Orientation. 6. All Aquatics shall set up a direct deposit before being scheduled for their first shift.

This position is open continuous and will close once all positions available are filled.

Qualified candidates will be contacted by Human Resources to schedule an interview. Duties of San Marcos Lifeguards typically include: • Enforce required safety rules and regulations • Prevent persons from entering into distressing and dangerous situations • Rescue persons in distress and administer first aid and emergency care • Ensure guests are safely participating in all aquatics activities • Answer inquiries from the public and provide information about city programs • Assist in overall maintenance and operations of the facility • Assist in conducting special events and department programming as needed To be a lifeguard you must meet the following qualifications: • Be a minimum 15 years of age at time of hire • Lifeguarding certification • CPR for the Professional Rescuer • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, recommended • Previous swim team, water polo team, or pool experience not required You do not have to be certified to complete an application, but you must be certified by the time of hire and provide proof of certification.
